Two Confused Athletes

Arizona State's Alden Derby got a little confused during last night's Holiday Bowl. Midway through the second quarter, Derby recovered a fumble off a muffed punt and instead of running into the end zone for an easy touchdown, he ran the wrong way and was quickly tackled. Meanwhile, Celtics forwardKris Humphries came thisclose to shooting at the wrong basket during Boston's game against Cleveland on Saturday.

For the last LLOD of 2013, I'm choosing a personal fave - Summer Rae. She is not only a WWE diva but also used to play for the Chicago Bliss of the Lingerie Football League.

Paying Tribute To Mack Brown

The Longhorns Marching Band paid homage to their outgoing coach by spelling out "Mack Brown" during the halftime show of Monday's Alamo Bowl. Also getting in on the action was team mascot Bevo, who wore a special halter with the word “MACK” inscribed instead of the usual “BEVO.”

Ever Wonder What a 1989 Scouting Report on Frank Thomas Looked Like?

Wonder no more. Busted Coverage has the full breakdown of Thomas' MLB future, including this gem, "Like Jim Rice (even bigger) and Mark McGwire rolled into one."

Green Bay Packers :: Neil Leifer/SI

The 1967 NFL Championship Game (aka. - The Ice Bowl) between the Packers and Cowboys was played on this day in 1967. Despite a game-time temperature of 13 degrees below zero at Lambeau Field, more than 50,000 fans braved the elements and watched the Packers claim their third consecutive NFL title with a 21-17 victory.

Odds and Ends

Southern defeated Champion Baptist College in men's college hoops last night by the slim margin of 116-12 ... Nick Saban got his nails painted during a visit to The Children's Hospital of New Orleans ... I will be staying away from Pret a Manger for a little while ... More problems between the Lakers and Pau Gasol ... MMQB producer Tom Mantzouranisweighed in with his 50 top albums of 2013.

My Favorite 2013 Sports Moment

Since you asked, my favorite 2013 sports moment was this dugout speech David Ortiz gave the Red Sox during Game 4 of the World Series.

My Second Favorite 2013 Sports Moment

Patrick Roy gets into a heated shouting match with Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau during his first game as coach of the Avalanche. No idea why I enjoyed this so much but I did.

The Price is Right Moment of the Year

That may be an overstatement since I don't watch The Price is Right, but this woman's reaction to winning a $157,000 car (the biggest prize in the show's history) is tremendous (reaction at 5:35 mark of video).
