Georgia governor Nathan Deal is up for re-election in less than a week, so his office is in full campaign mode, and what better way to endear yourself to the people of the Peach State than to jump on board the #FreeGurley bandwagon.
Deal's tweet chastises the NCAA for its Wednesday morning ruling that Gurley will have to sit out two more games for receiving over $3,000 for signing autographs for a memorabilia dealer.
All college football fans should be disheartened by the NCAA's ruling. #freegurley

Deal's opponent is Jason Carter, and while both candidates may have many nuanced ideological differences, they stand together on the Gurley issue, with Carter's campaign tweeting out support earlier this month.

Deal's campaign quickly responded to assure voters that he also supports the running back.
@bluestein @carter4governor I've always supported Gurley, not just during election season. #FreeGurley pic.twitter.com/tw0EHu2Rea
