Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or (French for "golden ball") as the world's top player on Monday. Nike marked the occasion by making Ronaldo some chaussures d'or (golden shoes).

Nike revealed a one-of-a-kind pair of cleats called the "Mercurial CR7 Rare Gold." The shoes also have a very luxurious special touch. The CR7 logo on the heel is covered in actual diamonds.

They aren't big glimmering stones like you'd find on a piece of jewelry, though. Instead, Nike used "micro diamonds," which are the little pieces of the stone that get chipped away when a jewel is getting refined.

The shoes aren't just for show, either. Nike says Ronaldo will wear them this week.
