• Remembering Ernie Banks: Why 'Mr. Cub' was the ideal baseball hero
Banks, the first black player in Cubs history, died last month at the age of 83. The Cubs announced last week that they will honor Banks by wearing a patch on their jerseys with his No. 14 all season long. There will also be a ceremony before the home opener on April 5.
Banks spent his entire 19-year career with the Cubs and was the first. He is tied for 22nd on the all-time home run list with 512, one of only 26 players to hit at least 500 career home runs.
