World champion gymnast gets proposal from NFL boyfriend after meet

Seattle Seahawks receiver Kevin Norwood proposed to his girlfriend, Alabama gymnast Kayla Williams, after her final home meet on Friday night.

Seattle Seahawks receiver Kevin Norwood proposed to his girlfriend, Alabama gymnast Kayla Williams, after her final home meet on Friday night.

According to AL.com, Norwood had been planning the proposal since October, and has had the ring since November. Williams' coach helped Norwood plan the proposal.

The plan culminated on the gymnastics team's Senior Night Friday, an elaborate scheme that began with Norwood handing out post-meet awards and posing for a picture with Williams and Duckworth before turning Williams around and beginning his proposal.

Norwood and Williams met at Alabama, where Norwood played football. He was drafted by the Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft. The receiver told AL.com that the past season was the first time the couple had spent a significant time apart. The distance, Norwood said, helped him realize he wanted to propose to Williams.

"Being in Seattle by myself and not knowing anyone and stuff like that, I just had more time to think to myself of what I really wanted in life, so that was pretty much the game-changer for me," Norwood said. "I've known for awhile that I wanted to be with her and stay with her for the rest of my life."
