The Fresno Grizzlies, a Triple A affiliate of the Houston Astros, have decided against giving away Astros 2017 World Series rings as a promotion, according to The Business Journal

The original idea, which was billed as a "Back to the Future" promotion, was based on a Sports Illustrated story from 2014 that labeled the Astros "your 2017 World Series champs."

The Grizzlies explained that they didn't want to "jinx" their parent club.

“We met internally and have decided to replace the 2017 Houston Astros World Championship Ring with a more Fresno-centric giveaway, which more aligns with our marketing plans for 2015 and beyond,” Grizzlies GM Derek Franks said, according to The Business Journal. "We do not want a Fresno Grizzlies giveaway to be perceived as a jinx for our Major League affiliate."

With this jinx sufficiently thwarted, it's safe to say the city of Houston can start preparing a parade for the 2017 World Series champs.
