Former Notre Dame guard Pat Connaughton has something to say about the label he's been given by some NBA scouts, after taking part in the draft combine in Chicago this week.

Last season with Notre Dame, he averaged 12.5 points and 7.4 rebounds and saved Notre Dame against Butler in the third round of the NCAA tournament with a last-second block on Kellen Dunham. He hit a go-ahead three in overtime.

At 6-foot-5, Connaughton was also a 38th-round selection in the MLB draft and spent time in the Baltimore Orioles' system last year with the Class A Aberdeen Ironbirds. He registered 96 mph on the radar gun.

"Deceptively athletic." Deceptive sounds about right. 44-inch max vertical? Yeah, doesn't quite past the eye test. 37.5-inch standing vert? Nah. Both those numbers were the best at the combine. Connaughton also registered a 10.74 second time on the lane agility drills and a 3.2 second 3/4 court sprint.

But we'll let that slide, right?

So much grit. So much heart. So scrappy.
