The playoff hopes of the Red Sox and Rays may very well be dead by late-September. That doesn't mean Boston fans won't have something to be grateful for.

Just a week after the Cardinals announced their Grateful Dead tribute night will take place on Sept. 2, the Red Sox have decided to hold one of their own.

Boston will welcome all Dead Heads in New England to Fenway Park on Sept. 21 to receive a special Red Sox Grateful Dead T-shirt as the band celebrates its 50th anniversary. They'll also treat guests to a performance by Fennario before first pitch.

A portion of proceeds will go to the Rex Foundation, the official charity of the Grateful Dead.

This will mark this year's fourth Grateful Dead night in Major League Baseball. The Giants held one earlier in August, and the Reds have a tribute night scheduled for Sept. 4.

Quick, somebody tell Bill Walton.
