Fans of the classic HBO series The Wire were pleasantly surprised by a new commercial for the Toyota Prius that aired during the Super Bowl.

Fans of the classic HBO series The Wire were pleasantly surprised by a new commercial for the Toyota Prius that aired during the Super Bowl.

Three members of the Sobotka family star as bank robbers in search of a getaway vehicle and decide to abscond in a new red Prius. 

For those unfamiliar with the series, the Sobotkas were a family of dock workers in the second season of the show. Frank Sobotka (played by Chris Bauer) is the oldest. His son Ziggy (played by James Ransone) and nephew Nick (played by Pablo Schreiber) round out the trio. 

The ad, which you can see below, pokes fun at the old stereotype that the Prius is a slow car, as the guys lead the police on the chase of a lifetime.
