Manchester United player was playing FIFA instead of watching his team
Nick Powell is under contract with Manchester United but out on loan at Hull City, so he wasn’t in Denmark for his club’s shocking Europa League loss to FC Midtjylland.
But did he at least catch the game?
“No, I completely forgot—I was playing FIFA, if I was honest,” Powell told the Daily Mail.
It’s probably for the best. Captain Wayne Rooney, who will reportedly miss two months with a knee injury, and world-class goalkeeper David de Gea, who hurt himself in warmups, were both missing from the lineup, adding to the club’s long list of injuries. Midtjytlland, which was only formed in 1999 and hadn’t played in over two months because of the Danish winter break, won 2–1.
• Markieff Morris left his last Suns practice on a hoverboard
United’s performance was bad enough that the poor fans who traveled across the North Sea to witness the defeat serenaded the team with a wonderfully vulgar chant.
