As it turns out, the little guy who played Calvin Cambridge in Like Mike has quietly been rapping on the side for the past 16 years.

Shad Moss, formerly known as “Lil’ Bow Wow,” who now goes by “Bow Wow,” announced his retirement from rap at the age of 29 on Sunday. He’s been quite busy since filming that classic flick in 2002, hosting BET’s 106 & Park and the Grammys pre-show this year. He also played a hacker named Brody “Baby Face” Nelson on CSI: Cyber.

Now, Bow Wow has obviously had to have had some success in the rap game to last this long, but I couldn’t tell you one track he has dropped other than “Big Girls,” with Yung Joc. In fact, I was certain he had retired in 2010 after he signed with Cash Money Records and things didn’t quite work out.

Let’s dive into his retirement announcement for a second:

When did Bow Wow make it to the White House? How did he make $20 million off rap? Does he mean 10 million DVDs sold? I’m so confused.

Enjoy spending the rest of the night reading Shad’s Wikipedia page and catching up on the 16 years of material you’ve missed. And, while you’re at it, watch Like Mike again. What a film.
