Kate Mara says her ex-boyfriend dented the Lombardi Trophy by kicking it

But there’s something fishy about this story.

Meeting a significant other’s family is always a nerve-racking experience, even when it doesn’t involve an iconic piece of NFL memorabilia.

Actress Kate Mara will be on Conan on Tuesday night and shared a cringe-inducing story about the time her ex-boyfriend dented the Lombardi Trophy. (Her mom’s family owns the Steelers and her dad’s owns the Giants, so they have a few of those laying around.)

According to the New York Post, Mara was dating Charlie Cox after the Giants’ Super Bowl XLII victory and Max Minghella when they won again four years later. Both guys are English, so it could be either of them. (Although I did find this photo of Cox apparently wearing steel-toed boots!)

But something about this doesn’t add up to me. Is it really possibly to kick an irregularly shaped, seven-pound trophy high enough to catch it?
