Baker Mayfield Says Handlebar Mustache Is No Longer Lucky
Do not expect to see Baker Mayfield sporting a handlebar mustache again anytime soon.
After showing off the look during the Cleveland Browns' loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Mayfield said the handlebars had to go.
"I was undefeated before Sunday with the handlebar mustache," Mayfield said on Wednesday.
"So I shaved it off because I didn't deserve it."
Mayfield was motivated to sport the handlebar mustache after he pledged to participate in "Movember" along with fellow quarterbacks Drew Stanton and Garrett Gilbert. The trio planned to partake in the initiative, which involves participants growing out their mustaches throughout the month of November to raise awareness for men's health matters.
"The original thought for me, do handlebars," Mayfield said.
Mayfield shaved the handlebars of his mustache off immediately following Sunday's loss, showing up to the post-game press conference with just a regular mustache—and sparking memes about his look.
Now that the luck of the handlebars has run out, Mayfield is back to a simple mustache for the rest of "Movember."
Mayfield and the Browns are looking for a bit of luck, as the team attempts to snap a four-game losing streak this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills at 1 p.m.
