Basketball World Reacts to Breanna Stewart’s Liberty Signing

The forward’s new teammates are thrilled for her to join the team in New York.

Breanna Stewart shocked the basketball world on Wednesday when she announced her signing with the Liberty.

The 2016 No. 1 pick played six seasons with the Storm, finishing with two WNBA titles and four All-Star selections.

There was speculation that the former Storm star would sign in New York, the state that she is from. Because of that, current WNBA and NBA stars actively tried to recruit the two-time champion to the Liberty.

Nets star Kevin Durant admitted on Monday that he had been texting Stewart in attempts to bring her to New York. Needless to say, he was very excited to hear she committed to the Liberty.

A few of Stewart’s new Liberty teammates expressed their excitement on Twitter following the news. Sabrina Ionescu finished her third season with the Liberty this past year, while Jonquel Jones was just acquired by New York on Jan. 16 in another blockbuster deal. Center Stefanie Dolson joined the Liberty last season.

But, then there was Sky star Lexie Brown, who apparently was hopeful for Stewart to potentially sign with Chicago.

Stewart averaged 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game last season, leading the WNBA in scoring for the first time in her career.
