Oklahoma High School Basketball Game Ends at 4–2

The conversation surrounding the implementation of shot clocks in high school basketball resurfaced after the game.

Two high school men’s basketball teams in Oklahoma produced what looks like a baseball score on Tuesday night, playing to a final score of 4–2.

Yes, there were only six total points scored in an entire four quarter game between Weatherford High School and Anadarko High School.

As a reminder, in about 40 states including Oklahoma, high school basketball does not currently have a shot clock, meaning the teams can hold onto the ball as long as they desire without being penalized for it.

During Tuesday night’s game, Weatherford came out and scored a basket pretty quickly in the game to go up 2–0, but then Anadarko held onto the ball until halftime, per social media reports.

Anadarko’s players continued to pass the ball and didn’t even appear to want to take a shot, per Butler County Times-Gazette’s Charles Chaney

Weatherford scored off of a steal with 2:40 left in the game to go up 4–0. Later in the quarter Anadarko would score its lone basket off of a missed layup by Weatherford to cut the lead to 4–2. The team would eventually shoot a long three-pointer at the buzzer in an attempt to steal the win, but it was no good.

A conversation surrounding the shot clock in Oklahoma high school basketball may very well resurface after this game. The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association almost voted for the implementation of a shot clock beginning in 2024, but the president’s vote against the shot clock delayed the installation.
