TV Reporter Trolls Cowboys During Stand-Up at XFL Game

America’s Team just can’t catch a break.

The NFL season is in the rearview mirror, but it appears roasting the perennially hapless Cowboys is a year-round endeavor for some.

Saturday marked the 2023 season debut of the XFL, with a pair of games on the schedule. One of them matched the Vegas Vipers against the Arlington Renegades, with the host Renegades earning a 22-20 victory on the strength of two pick-sixes by the defense in the second half.

Despite all that good mojo, reporter William Joy of WFAA-TV in Dallas couldn’t help but set his sights on the Cowboys for a little teasing during his on-the-scene news hit outside Choctaw Stadium.

“Even though attendance was pretty decent today, the weather probably kept a lot of people away. There were a lot of people in heavy winter coats, a lot of people in blankets,” Joy said. “But, frankly, I think people are just excited to have a team in Arlington that actually plays football games in February.”

Of course, the Cowboys are an easy target for their detractors, as yet another season ended in disappointment, with a divisional-round loss to the 49ers. Since winning Super Bowl XXX in the 1995 season, Dallas hasn’t even made it to the NFC championship game, with decades of futility providing fodder for all kinds of jokes at their expense.

Good news for football fans in the Lone Star State, though: the Renegades look ready to contend in 2023.
