Jamaal Charles Takes Issue With LeSean McCoy’s Opinion of Eric Bieniemy
Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy has been publicly critical of new Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy in the past, but he took it to another level on Monday—leading to another tailback to respond.
McCoy was coached by Bieniemy when the two were with the Chiefs and he went as far as to say the assistant coach “has nothing to do with the pass game at all” and he “has no real responsibility” when coaching players.
“Where is the true value at?” McCoy asked when assessing Bieniemy’s hiring in Washington.
Another former running back under Bieniemy, Jamaal Charles, took issue with McCoy’s assessment and chimed in with his own opinion.
“I have to disagree with you Shady,” he said on Twitter. “Bieniemy Coach me for 4 years I learned so many thing for EB and I keep in contact with him a great husband and father. He deserves to be a head coach.”
Bieniemy, who was a running backs coach with Kansas City before being promoted to OC, coached Charles when he led the NFL in rushing touchdowns back in 2013. McCoy was only with the Chiefs for one season in ’19 at the tail end of his career—well after his All-Pro playing days.
Bieniemy’s hiring by the Commanders has led to a lot of dialogue; he has been OC to one of the best offenses in the NFL for several years since Patrick Mahomes’s emergence, but he hasn’t gotten a head coaching opportunity. Instead, he will look to prove his ability in Washington.
