Quarterback prospect Will Levis had a good day at the NFL combine on Saturday, showing off his strong arm in an attempt to boost his draft stock. But while he allowed his talents to shine on the field, he also got a chance to explain a personal oddity off the field.

Levis made news last summer when he was seen putting mayonnaise in his coffee instead of usual accompaniments, such as cream or sugar. The former Kentucky quarterback explained at the NFL scouting combine that he merely added the condiment to his coffee as a joke once, but the act then went viral on social media.

“It was a Friday before a game, me and my girlfriend were at breakfast, we got our coffees and there was no cream, no sugar on the table, just a bottle of mayo,” Levis said. “She made the kind of funny joke ‘Do you think people are supposed to put this in their coffee?’ And I was like, ‘Maybe, let’s try it out.’”

Levis said he knew it would “get a rise out of people” but admitted it became a more widespread talking point than he ever expected. He added that the combination “didn’t taste half bad,” but apparently it was the only time he’s added mayo to his coffee without being nudged.

As for his real coffee order, Levis said he likes using almond milk and stevia. So, although Levis became infamous as the mayo-in-his-coffee guy, in reality he was just playing along with the joke.
