Baseball Fans Couldn’t Believe the Yankees’ Disaster First Inning vs. Twins
Social media had a feast with the Twins scoring nine runs in the first inning of a game against the Yankees on Thursday night.
A total of thirteen batters came to the plate in a nine-run inning which resulted in an extremely short outing for New York starter Jhony Brito. The brilliant rookie, who came into the game with a solid 0.90 ERA, failed to make it out of the first inning as his ERA rose to a chilly 6.75.
Minnesota hit back-to-back-to-back home runs by Michael A. Taylor, Edouard Julien and Carlos Correa. The three-player explosion marked the first time Twins have hit three consecutive home runs since last season—ironically also against the Yankees.
The nine-run barrage ties the record for the most first-inning runs allowed by New York in team history.
Among the tweets trolling the massive scoring output came from the Twins social media team who used a clip from the 1986 hit movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Jets star wideout Garrett Wilson couldn't resist from jumping in as well with a tweet that will make half of New York baseball fans happy, while upsetting the other half.
The lead ballooned to 11–0 by the end of the third inning and the tweets kept rolling in, even when Anthony Rizzo homered in the bottom of the fourth.
