The Athletic NBA reporter Shams Charania seems to rarely take a day off. He is on the record saying as such, telling GQ in the fall of 2020 that “there definitely have been instances where I’m out with friends and you have to take a call for 15–20 minutes and you come back and you definitely feel like there’s some angst.”

As it turns out, that work ethic includes not merely NBA banner days but red-letter days for other sports.

Charania broke the news Thursday evening that the Panthers intended to take Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with the first pick of the NFL draft, garnering mixed reactions from social media.

Some expressed awe at Charania's crossover into football.

Some questioned what other world events Charania would jump on in the future.

Some just shook their heads.

Charania, however, stumbled two picks later, incorrectly announcing that the Cardinals would select linebacker Will Anderson before they traded their pick to the Texans.

In a mea culpa, Charania seemed to acknowledge that NFL reporting should be left to the experts.
