The Boston Celtics Reminded a Lot of People of Kendall Roy
1. If you're a Succession fan who hasn't watched Sunday's episode yet, skip ahead to Item No. 2 because there are spoilers ahead.
The two big events over the Memorial Day weekend was the series finale of HBO’s Succession and what turned out to be the season finale for the Boston Celtics.
Many fans couldn’t help by notice the similarities between Kendall Roy’s apparent comeback before ultimately losing thanks to his sister, Shiv, stabbing him in the back and Boston’s comeback from 3–0 down to the Heat to even the series before flopping in Game 7 at home Monday.
Other fans pointed out the similarities between the eighth-seeded Heat reaching the NBA Finals and Tom Wambsgans ending up as the CEO of Waystar Royco.
Those comparisons made for some amusing tweets.
2. Succession and Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals were the two biggest events of the weekend, but the most important event and the most powerful event was the return of White Sox pitcher Liam Hendriks, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma five months ago. What a moment.
3. Every time I scrolled through TikTok this weekend, I saw videos of Aaron Rodgers dancing at Taylor Swift's concert in New Jersey.
Give Rodgers credit for being a legit fan and not a fake celeb fan because he actually went to two of the three shows at MetLife Stadium, which is a horrible stadium, by the way.
4. Someone on the Astros’ social media team tweeted and then deleted this missive while Houston was beating up on Oakland on Sunday while closing out a three-game sweep.
I’m pro trash-talking, and we all know the A’s are a complete embarrassment, but this was pretty bush league coming from a team account.
5. Aaron Judge hit two more dingers Monday night in a Yankees win over the Mariners. He also robbed Seattle’s Teoscar Hernández of a home run, which led to Hernández questioning Judge right after the game.
6. The latest SI Media With Jimmy Traina features two interviews.
First up is WWE legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Austin discusses his new show on A&E, Stone Cold Takes on America, what he thinks of the current WWE story line involving Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, and his feelings on CM Punk’s status with AEW.
Austin also reminisces about his legendary career, sharing his thoughts on the biggest pop he ever got from a WWE crowd and sharing a never-before-told story about how he ended up making so much money off his famous “Austin 3:16” shirt.
Following Austin, The Athletic's Richard Deitsch joins the podcast at the 31-minute mark for a discussion on the latest sports media news. Topics covered include flex scheduling coming to Thursday Night Football and Amazon Prime, why ESPN can never close the gap with TNT when it comes to NBA studio shows, what ESPN going direct-to-consumer means, the NBA’s possible return to NBC and much more.
Following Deitsch, Sal Licata from WFAN radio and SNY TV in New York joins me for our weekly “Traina Thoughts” segment.
