The Timberwolves declined the team option on the final year of veteran forward Taurean Prince’s contract on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski announced the contract move on Twitter in classic “Woj Bomb” fashion, and it seems that his tweet was the first that Prince had heard about the team’s decision.

“Sheesh, appreciate the heads up Woj,” Prince wrote on Twitter

Rather than hear it from the Timberwolves organization, Prince apparently discovered his fate from the report on social media.

The 29-year-old was due to make $7.4 million in 2023–24, but instead he’ll become an unrestricted free agent following the decision from the Timberwolves.

Prince isn’t the first NBA player this offseason to be caught off guard by a roster move involving themselves. Earlier this month, Chris Paul revealed he discovered he’d been traded by the Suns through a text message from his 14-year-old son. The news of the deal had been reported on Twitter while Paul was on a flight.

In 2022-23, Prince averaged 9.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 38.1% from three-point range. It was his second season in Minnesota, and he’s previously spent time with the Hawks, Nets, and Cavaliers.
