A YES Network cameraman had to be carted off the field in the 5th inning of Wednesday night’s game between the Yankees and Orioles at Yankee Stadium after Baltimore infielder Gunnar Henderson hit the camera operator with an errant throw.

The cameraman, Pete Stendel, was conscious and undergoing tests at a local hospital, according to a statement from the YES Network after the game.

Henderson was in the middle of turning a double play for the Orioles when his throw sailed over the head of first baseman Ryan O’Hearn. The ball struck Stendel, who was injured and attended to by medical personnel for 17 minutes.

Stendel was eventually carted off the field and held up a peace sign to the crowd to let fans know he was O.K. Those in attendance at Yankee Stadium started an MVP chant as he was taken off the field to the hospital for evaluation.

Henderson expressed remorse for the incident after the game.

“Every time that a ball goes over the first baseman or even a foul ball from the hitter, you don’t want to see it going towards a fan,” Henderson said after the game. “It just happened to be in the wrong spot and I hope he’s doing all right. My prayers go out to him. I’m just thankful for the guys that rushed over there to help him.”

Baltimore edged New York 6–3 on Wednesday to improve to 50–35 on the season.
