Charlotte Football Coach Upset With Media Over Three-Question Press Conference
During the American Athletic Conference’s 2023 Football Media Day in Arlington Texas, new Charlotte football coach Biff Poggi was not pleased with the lack of questions he received during his time at the podium.
As a result, he took the chance to deliver a mic-drop moment on Tuesday that had social media buzzing.
Poggi became irate after reporters only asked him three questions during the session. When he realized that no other media member was planning to check in, the 64-year-old used the lack of inquiry to take aim at the apparent disrespect of being picked to finish last in the preseason AAC poll.
“That’s it? Three questions?” Poggi asked in disbelief. “Maybe that’s because you have us ranked last, that’s all that you think of us… So, we get that message. Thank you.”
It’s understandable why polls have the 49ers predicted to finish last with the AAC expanding to 14 teams in 2023, as the program has only enjoyed one winning campaign (2019) dating back to the 2015 season. Over that span, Charlotte has compiled a disappointing 29–62 (.319) mark and will now have to face decidedly tougher competition following its move out of Conference USA.
Poggi hopes to turn around the fortunes of a 49ers squad that finished last in 2022 after posting a woeful 3–9 record.
