Seattle Taylor Swift Fans Break Seismic Record From Marshawn Lynch ‘Beast Quake’

The Swifties brought the energy to Lumen Field.

The “Swifties” are back in the news.

Fans taking in Taylor Swift’s latest “Eras Tour” stop in Seattle witnessed history, as fans inside Lumen Field caused seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake as Swift performed last weekend.

The “Swift Quake” at Lumen Field rivaled that of the 2011 “Beast Quake” that came when running back Marshawn Lynch scored his iconic 67-yard touchdown run against the Saints in the playoffs.

In fact, the Swift Quake edged out the Beast Quake by 0.3 on the seismograph, according to seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach. The shaking itself that came from the Swift concert doubled the Beast Quake though, in an impressive feat by the Swifties in attendance in Seattle.

“The primary difference is the duration of the shaking,” Caplan-Auerbach told CNN. “Cheering after a touchdown lasts for a couple seconds, but eventually it dies down. It’s much more random than a concert. For Taylor Swift, I collected about 10 hours of data where rhythm controlled behavior. The music, the speakers, the beat. All that energy can drive into the ground and shake it.”
