Ezekiel Elliott stirred quite a buzz around the NFL on Monday after the free-agent running back reportedly agreed to a deal with the Patriots. But, while the deal may have come as a surprise to some, the writing may have already been on the wall based on Elliott’s social media activity.

Prior to the news of his signing, Elliott, who was released by the Cowboys in March, hinted at a new beginning on Twitter by tweeting the No. 15 Monday afternoon. The tweet, despite the lack of details, still managed to turn heads, considering the number belonged to Elliott during his three years at Ohio State.

Less than two hours later, the vague message proved to be a sign of things to come as reports broke, following news of his new deal, that Elliott would change back to his old college number from the No. 21 he wore for seven seasons in Dallas.

Although it’s been over eight years since he donned the number, Elliott clearly feels a sense of rejuvenation, and perhaps inspiration from his OSU days, ahead of his eighth NFL season.

Needless to say, the three-time Pro Bowler appears to be all systems go for his voyage to Foxborough, where Elliott will take on a lesser role for the first time in his career as a backup to starter Rhamondre Stevenson.
