It has been 31 years since the Seattle Sonics took on the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs in 1992.

A series that the Supersonics won 3-1 when the first round was only five games. The series also provided numerous highlights that are still discussed today, including Shawn Kemp’s alley-oop jam from Gary Payton. Kemp was fouled on the play by Chris Gatling with under a minute remaining.

The basket put the Sonics ahead for good in a 129-128 victory. Kemp finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett recently called it his favorite alley-oop.

The highlight is one of Lakers assistant Phil Handy referenced when asked to share his favorite moment of the Sonics franchise, which eventually relocated to Oklahoma City in 208.

“Favorite Moments? Growing up, I was a big Shawn Kemp fan,” Handy said. I think my favorite moment was the alley-oop caught on my hometown team, the Golden State Warriors, I think it was Chris Gatling. That was one of my favorite moments… Nasty dunk.”
