Back In The Day NBA, June 20, 1993: Michael Jordan Leads Chicago Bulls To Third Straight Championship
NBA legend Michael Jordan is known for his clutch play during winning moments.
On this day, he served as the perfect decoy. Guard John Paxson hit the winning basket to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 99-98 victory against the Phoenix Suns in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. It capped the Bulls' third straight championship.
Bulls forward Horace Grant made the pass to Paxson.
“It was a combination of both. It was a very instinctive play because I saw in my peripheral vision that Danny Ainge and Dan Majerle were right there," Grant said recently. "They were right there, and I knew that someone was open. And it just happened to be a great shooter like John Paxson. So it was a combination of basketball instincts, and knowing that I had two guys on me."
