Dave Meyers Of Milwaukee Bucks Was One Of Few Who Took Jumpshots At Free Throw Line
There have been several unique free-throw shooting forms in the NBA.
From Bill Cartwright to Jamaal Wilkes to Harold Miner, the league has seen its share. None were perhaps as bizarre as former Milwaukee Bucks player Dave Meyers.
He was one of the few to shoot jumpshots at the foul line. Meyers, who passed away in 2015, would have turned 70 today. He died of cancer.
Meyers was the No. 2 overall pick out of UCLA in the 1975 draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. A few weeks later, he was traded to the Bucks as part of the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar deal.
Meyers played four seasons, averaging 11.2 points before calling it a career in 1980 so he could spend more time with family. Some have tried to replicate his free throws style. In 2015, Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside used the the technique because he said it was more comfortable.
