Gary Payton-Shawn Kemp Take Offense Los Angeles Clippers Being Dubbed "Lob City

The Los Angeles Clippers featuring Chris Paul and Blake Griffin were called Lob City but years before it was Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp with the Seattle Super Sonics

The Los Angeles Clippers went by the nickname "Lob City" from 2012-17 because of their impressive ability to perform alley-oop dunks games.

The trio of Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin were the reason for the moniker but before them there was Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp of the Seattle SuperSonics.

They were the original masters of the alley-oop during their time in the 1990s. Their games were mostly filled passes from Payton to the acrobatic Kemp, a 6-foot-10 dunking sensation.

Payton recently addressed this during an appearance on the Draft Kings podcast.

"People started talking about Lob City up in here and the Clippers," Payton said. "Get the hell outta here. I just throw thangs all up over here and that boy used to come get it. Come on now, y'all wanna talk about Griffin and CP? I was already doing that. I was that early in the `90s. Them dude was in diapers. They were trying to look at us."

Kemp and Payton are generally regarded as one of the best tandems in NBA history. They peaked during the 1995-96 season when they lost to the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls in the Finals.
