How Giancarlo Stanton's Weight Loss Will Affect Upcoming Yankees' Season
The New York Yankees will be entering a crucial season this year after missing out on the playoffs entirely in 2023. The front office went out to acquire star outfielder Juan Soto, among other moves, and they are feeling very confident in their chances.
New York isn't used to missing the postseason, so it was a wake-up call for the organization. Entering the year, one of the more critical players in terms of the teams' success is Giancarlo Stanton.
Stanton has been with the Yankees for six years, but his production has declined over time. He has also suffered multiple injuries that have limited his time on the field.
But he worked this offseason to slim himself down, with the hope of improving his level of production. Pete Caldera and Mike Stanton of The Bronx spoke about how he will impact this team and how the weight loss helps him.
"If he's hitting seven down the order, you've got a former MVP guy, who hit close to 60 home runs one year, batting in the seven spot, but he showed up a bit of a physical transformation, slimmed down a bit. It was the idea of both Stanton and the club that it might benefit him to play at a lighter weight . Not that the guy was ever a worry about not being in shape, he's always in shape."
Last season with New York, Stanton hit just .191 with 24 home runs and 60 runs batted in over 101 games. It was a bad showing for the former MVP, and he knew he needed to change up his routine.
"Glad to see him slim down a little bit. I'm sure he's still a physical specimen like he always is. But I think there's a lot of people that felt like he might have been just a little bit too bulky to stay healthy for the long haul of the regular season."
By him cutting some weight, he should be able to get through the grind of the 162-game season a little easier. He will still be the powerful slugger that we have all come to know, but this is a preventative measure taken by him to prolong his career.
