Are Opt-Outs Killing Bowl Games? Adam Carriker Offers His Opinion

College football players continue to opt out of bowl games for many reasons, the Big 10 Show discusses how it's affecting the game.

On a recent episode of The Big 10 Show podcast, former NFL player Adam Carriker talked about the long-term effect of players opting out of bowl games.

“My thoughts are this: it is killing the bowl games. Eventually, there is going to be a team that just opts out of a bowl game entirely. Florida State thought about doing it this year. Actually, Nebraska did it a few years ago. They just weren’t very good, so nobody in the country cared. Somebody is going to do it, and the bowl games are just going to die, and then the playoffs are gonna go to 16 or 24 teams, whatever the case may be.”

Carriker brought up the fact that college players do not want to practice for a month to play one game and risk getting injured if they are already projected to be a high draft pick at the next level.
