Devin Butler Calls Out Stephen A. Smith Over Notre Dame Comments

Devin Butler called out Stephen A. Smith for his comments on Notre Dame no longer being "relevant" in college football.

Stephen A. Smith has built a career out of ruffling the feathers of many players, analysts, and fans. He continually has hot takes on his shows that are nearly designed to make people get upset.

He recently commented on the college football world and Notre Dame, stating that since the team has not been to a National Championship in over 30 years, they should not be viewed as "relevant." Devin Butler of Lucky Underdogs has now responded to Smith's comments, denying that the prestigious college team is irrelevant.

"Yeah, I think Stephenie A. is definitely one of those guys that probably was sick of hearing about Notre Dame when we were at our height, and now he's just been so ready and just chomping at the bit to be like, 'Yes, get Notre Dame off of this, out of the center of the spotlight. They're not the center anymore.' But no matter what you do man, that gold is going to be right there, front and center in college football, like there's no ifs, ands or buts about it."

Butler has a good point. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have constantly been relevant for decades. Apart from 2016, the team has posted a winning season in the last seven of eight seasons.

"You saying we're not relevant and it just sounds like hating, because anybody who pays attention to football really knows that Notre Dame is always consistently relevant in the conversation of great football being played there."

Smith, once again, is saying wild takes to get a reaction out of people. The fact that Notre Dame hasn't won a National Championship in 30+ years doesn't take away from the fact that the program continues to win. Smith can deny them all he wants, but posting seven winning seasons in a row is nothing to scoff at.
