2024 Chiefs Defense setting them apart in the Patrick Mahomes Era

Not as much is being asked of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City offense now that the defense is also dominating. After years of Mahomes arm being the driving force, the other side of the ball is why the Chiefs are again in the Super Bowl.

Kansas City will make their fourth Super Bowl appearance in the past five years. Despite the offense stars still receiving a lot of the attention, former Chiefs tight end Jason Dunn talked about how great the defense has been this season on the Chief Concerns podcast.

“People had not been talking about how good our defense is. They weren’t giving them any props whatsoever the entire season,” said Dunn. “Before you know it, we got one of the top defenses in the entire league… To hold Lamar and them to that many points, come on man. What else can you say.”

Chris Jones had 10.5 sacks this season and anchors the defensive unit. The Chiefs were the second-ranked team in yards allowed and points allowed during the regular season. They gave up just over 17 points per game and are fresh off holding Lamar Jackson and the Ravens to ten points. Kansas City is a 2.5-point underdog against the 49ers in the Super Bowl, according to BetOnline.
