Bennie Fowler on Giants, “Is This Roster Constructed Properly?”

Bennie Fowler questions whether or not the New York Giants roster is set up for success.
In this story:

The New York Giants were hoping to return to the playoffs this year but didn't even manage to scrape together a winning record. That has a lot to do with QB Daniel Jones getting hurt, resulting in missing 11 games this season.

A big reason for that is the Giants' offensive line, which has been shaky. The team will need to address this issue in free agency and the draft to ensure that Jones has the best possible chance to win games.

Bennie Fowler discussed the Giants roster on Talkin' Ball, and if the team has the right roster in place.

"I think the Giants have some pretty good coaches. They let go of T-Mac in terms of special teams, but they have some pretty good coaches. But is this roster constructed properly? Are they putting people in the right positions to do the right things? I think you're going to see I don't know if they're going to resign Saquon...I don't think they put D.J. in a position to win in terms of being successful. In terms of calling plays that he's super comfortable with, you know, trying to air it out. You can't air it out without protection."

Fowler believes that the Giants have a good team, but it may be the coaches are not putting the players in the best-case scenario. Jones showed that he is a viable starter, but without the proper o-line, he will continue to get hammered by opposing defenses.

"You paid Daniel a lot of money because he's a good player. You bet he's a good football player. So we know what it looks like when he's great, but I mean, it has to be complementary. Football's no different than what Kyle Shanahan is doing with Brock Purdy. Make it complimentary."

Jones can be a great quarterback if he has the time in the pocket to make proper throws. Coaches tend to get too tricky with their plays when sometimes it boils down to simply drawing up pass protection for an arm like Jones to gun it downfield.
