The New York Giants have been addressing their roster through free agency in great ways, especially after adding perennial edge rusher, Brian Burns. Burns comes over from the Carolina Panthers, and the 25-year-old is a force to be reckoned with.

Burns secured eight sacks last season, adding to his staggering 46 total through five seasons. The NFL world was shocked that the Panthers were willing to let him walk, even after they still did not secure a first-round pick for him.

Bob Papa and Carl Banks discuss the trade and what led the Panthers to let such a star player walk on Bleav in Giants.

"Yeah. And he's 25 years old. It's, listen, I think the Giants were able to take advantage of Carolina's dysfunction. Because if you remember, a year ago and even at the end of 22, at the trading deadline and the trading deadline of 22, the regime that was in Carolina at that point, he was their only untouchable. They let everybody know that he's offered him a lot."

Much like the trade that went down with RB Christian McCaffrey, the Panthers let Burns walk without securing a first-round pick. The front office of the Panthers has some work it needs to do because letting players of this nature walk without proper compensation is quite dysfunctional.

The Panthers could have easily gotten a first-round pick for McCaffrey and Burns, but that did not happen.

"He was like an untouchable the way we are not. But they've had 19 head coaches since then. It's the fall of 22. So he went from untouchable, to we got him, but we're not we're not paying them the money that he's looking for. And hey listen, I like the trade. He needs to be Bobby Okereke 2.0."

Bobby Okereke secured 2.5 sacks last season, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions. Burns can easily get to that level with the Giants.

The Panthers might be viewed as crazy for allowing such a high talent to once again walk out of their building. But as they say, "One person's loss is another person's gain."
