Daniel Wilcox on Brock Purdy Critics, "I Really Hate It"

Daniel Wilcox defends Brock Purdy's season, and how critics need to stop claiming he is a bad quarterback.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy might be one of the most criticized players this season. Despite helping lead his team to the Super Bowl, he has often been called a "system" QB.

The entire "Mt. Irrelevant" narrative has been attached to his name, which is odd considering he came from a UCL tear and has had an amazing season. Daniel Wilcox of Bleav in Ravens called out those who were super critical of Purdy, and remain that way.

"So to be called Mr. Irrelevant by the world, by the NFL, the league that you play for— and still battle through that alone and have a chance in your second year as a starter to take your team to the Super Bowl. And you play your butt off to the point where you should have won that game. You almost won that game. It had to go to overtime for the other team to beat you, with Patrick Mahomes. You got to take your hat off to that kid."

Wilcox is right in that Purdy would not have been successful if he wasn't special. He nearly beat Patrick Mahomes and the defending champs. The fact that people continue to state that he should be cut is a ridiculous notion.

"I hate it. I really do hate it. And I'm and I'm telling you, like over and over and over again, Brock Purdy is a heck of a quarterback. And he showed you all year long under scrutiny. Everybody every week in week out Brock Purdy this and Brock Purdy that, he ain't this and he ain't that. And it was only a couple of people that were willing to tell you what he really was. You know, he did a phenomenal job this year. The kid deserved to be in the Super Bowl."

Purdy was in the Super Bowl and he deserved to be there. He is also young and has plenty to learn, but he is more than likely to end up back in the big game. The next time, he may just walk away with the Lombardi Trophy.
