Former Tackle Derrick Deese on Why the 49ers Have a "Great Shot at Winning it All”

Derrick Deese spoke on what makes this 49ers team different than years before, including their chances of taking home the big win.
In this story:

The San Francisco 49ers are one game away from being known as Super Bowl champs. Despite being the best team in the NFC through most of the season, they also had their issues, like nearly losing to the Lions in the NFC Championship game.

Still, despite their adversity, they have found ways to win when it matters. Former 49ers offensive lineman Derrick Deese joined Bleav Network's The Weekly Pass to discuss what he has seen from the would-be Super Bowl champs.

"And so I think the secondary is definitely improved because I know over the last couple of years, I mean, the guys have talked about, you know, a secondary, secondary, you know, But I think those guys are definitely, you know, they've handled their business, They've done what they're supposed to do."

Deese is right in stating that the 49ers secondary has certainly stepped their game up. They had a league-leading 22 interceptions in the 2023 season.

What has made this team even more dynamic is running back Christian McCaffrey, who is a walking touchdown.

"I said at the beginning of the year that I believe that if they were able to stay healthy and if McCaffrey was able to stay healthy and be productive like he wants to be, which is still wants to carry a load and be able to not get hurt or banged up, I think that they have a great shot at winning it all. And that's exactly what's happened. And so now you just got to finish it. You got one more game to accomplish your goal."

The 49ers have been one of the most complete teams this season, and McCaffrey being the rushing yards leader and rushing TD leader has transformed the team into an offensive powerhouse.

While the Kansas City Chiefs are nothing to scoff at, the 49ers might overwhelm them like they have to practically every opponent they faced this year.
