How Craig Wolfley Envisions Jackson Powers-Johnson Fitting At Center For The Steelers

Could the Ducks great translate at the next level?

All-Pac-12 Oregon Ducks junior Jackson Powers-Johnson, a unanimous All-American and the Rimington Trophy winner in 2023, emerged as a top pro prospect at this year's NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

While in conversation with hosts Ike Taylor and Mark Bergin of the Bleav In Steelers podcast, longtime Pittsburgh Steelers guard-turned-broadcaster Craig Wolfley unpacked how Powers-Johnson could fulfill a major need for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to rebuild their roster everywhere post-Big Ben.

"I'm interested in that Jackson Powers-Johnson kid and... [West Virginia center] Zach Frazier. Because obviously, center is going to be a big fill in spot for the Steelers," Wolfley said. "And we've been looking for the Mike Webster, Dermontti Dawson, Maurkice Pouncey successor for a little while, you know. So that's kind of exciting. Those guys look pretty good. So that's who I'm kind of very interested in."

"We'll see how it unfolds," Wolfley continued. "But, you know, the whole combine thing, I never went to the combine back in the day and I was so good because I wanted my kids. My kids said, 'Why didn't you go [to the combine while in college[?' And I said, 'Well, it's not that they didn't want me. I was just so good. I didn't need to do it.'"

This year, the 6'3", 320-pound offensive lineman out of Draper, Utah officially took over under center for a high-powered Ducks defense. For his efforts, he was named to the 2024 Senior Bowl.
