Jason Dunn Picks Top Choice For Shoring Up Chiefs' LT Position
How can the Kansas City Chiefs, winners of the last two straight Super Bowls and three across the past five years, get even better next season?
During a new episode of his Chief Concerns podcast via Bleav, longtime Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles tight end Jason Dunn recently weighed in on how the club should handle its offensive line this offseason.
"Well, obviously the left tackle spot is a very important position -- the most important position besides a quarterback, because [it determines] who and what's going to be protecting Patrick Mahomes blindside," Dunn said. "So we look at Donovan Smith, who did a great job for us last year, who was a free agent. I would love to sign Donovan Smith to another long term deal if we could get him something here that works for both parties ...Donovan Smith will be my first choice. "
"If not, then we have a very young guy and a very capable guy who came in and ...took over for Donovan Smith when he was hurt. And his name is Wanya Morris. Wanya Morris is a tall, lanky, very athletic, up to tackle, did well for us. And if we don't have Donovan Smith one year, Morris would be the next best option for us.
"I think [if] we find a price point that works for, like I said, for both parties [Donovan Smith is the move]. And if not... Wanya Morris... did a really good job. It bodes well for us that he could come in and probably do the job better than maybe getting the guy in the draft, or if we thinking about trying to save money because we have to big signings we need to do on the deep inside with [defensive tackle] Chris Jones... I think we would try to do something else as far as going out, breaking the bank with another free agent left tackle that I don't think would do a much better job or better job than Wanya Morris would perform."
