Lorenzo Neal Is Pumped For Harbaugh’s New Charger Team Mindset
Ever since Justin Herbert was selected by the Chargers as their promising franchise quarterback back in 2020, the team and their fans have held solid hope in success each year. In 2023, Herbert portrayed some promise as the Chargers went 10-7 and into the Wild Card playoff game against the Jaguars. The Chargers were up 27-7 going into halftime, just before their epic meltdown to ultimately lose the game 31-30. Since this grueling 2023 playoff loss, the 2024 Charger team trudged onto an injury-riddled year ending at 5-12.
One of the best aspects of sports is that there is always going to be next year, and there is always going to be change. For the Chargers, they cleared the house this offseason. Changes began from the top of the pyramid with former Michigan Football Head Coach, Jim Harbaugh, being promoted to now steer the Chargers into a new journey of success. The offensive weapons of Kennan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler have all been dealt to new teams too.
Matt Smith and Lorenzo Neal break down the takeaways and motto of the new Los Angeles Chargers from the pressers this week – “We are going to keep our guys healthy, we are going to make them harder to break”. Newly-acquired tight end Hayden Hurst tells the press that “this upcoming Chargers team is going to play 60 minutes of street-fight football”.
I’ll tell you one thing, Lorenzo Neal loves the type of toughness and attitude the Chargers are bringing into this year already. Neal continues in explaining how team intensity and toughness throughout each season allowed him to keep playing in the NFL for 17 years. This is the exact mindset he expects from his former Chargers team this year, especially with Jim Harbaugh and Strength Coach Ben Herbert that are going to set the tone and weed out the weak links.
At the end of the day, new HC Jim Harbaugh and his staff have made it clear that the objective is to instill a culture of physicality, accountability, and durability. From the weight room, to mentally preparing, to watching game tape, Harbaugh is asserting a strict precedent with the goal of creating a new dynasty with the Chargers, picking up from where he left at the University of Michigan.
