Ramon Foster Weighs In On If Russell Wilson Is A Locker Room Fit With Pittsburgh
Veteran soon-to-be-ex-Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, who will be a free agent on March 13th, met with the Pittsburgh Steelers' decision makers on Friday for an hours-long conversation, per John Breech of CBS Sports. He also had a conversation with the New York Giants, where presumably he'd be slotted in as the club's starter over Daniel Jones. Breech noted that the Las Vegas Raiders could also be an eventual match.
On Bleav's The Ramon Foster Steelers Show, the longtime Pittsburgh guard unpacked the potential fit of Wilson, and how incumbent starting quarterback Kenny Pickett might feel about it.
"How good or bad is Russell Wilson with his teammates?" Foster asked. "You heard some of the stuff that happened on the later parts of the Legion of Boom. When it came down to that group right there, the understanding that they wanted to make Russell the Super Bowl MVP and the second Super Bowl opportunity that they had. My thing was, Russ is this -- and I'll say this about any player that plays football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer don't matter what. You can't do the extra stuff unless you do that one thing that got you in a position that you are really well."
"I know Sean Payton and I'm sure Coach Tomlin does," Foster added. "Why is Sean Payton not wanting you to be his franchise quarterback moving forward? Do you have a locker room issue? Can you handle our locker room They need an offensive leader. Can you actually do that? And not trying to build your brand in football? Because here's the thing about this city, the city of champions, right? ...If you come in and show that you can be a winner, they will love you. But if you want to go do this extra sideshow stuff at that position, then they will bury you... alive... That's what you're getting yourself into.
"Your quarterback is on your roster after, I think, March 12th. [Bringing in Wilson would signify to picket] 'They don't believe in me,' essentially... But again, why would you bring in such a big personality like Russell Wilson if Kenny Pickett is your [quarterback of the future]?"
