Scott Pioli on Jim Harbaugh Hire, "He Has His Own Style, It's Not For Everyone"

Scott Pioli joins Bleav in Chargers to discuss Jim Harbaugh being hired as new head coach.

The Los Angeles Chargers got their new head coach in Jim Harbaugh, who is the biggest hire the team has seen in the last 10 years. Despite the excitement behind Harbaugh coming over, he does have a knack for rubbing authority the wrong way.

Harbaugh has his own paricular style that works if he is allowed to do things his own way. Harbaugh is a proven winner, so allowing him the freedom to build a team his way should be the way to go. Former NFL GM Scott Pioli joined Bleav in Chargers to dicuss Harbaugh's peculiar style.

"And I'll say this about Coach Harbaugh. You know, I worked with him as a consultant for a year up at Michigan. And he has his own style. He has his way of doing things. It's not for everybody...I worked with Belichick and Parcells. We weren't for everybody. Right. It's and that doesn't make anyone a bad person. That doesn't make anyone a weak person. He's going with his style. He knows how to win. Those who say, will be winners."

Harbaugh has reportedly gone against authority in positions before, which is why he had left the San Francisco 49ers. Still, that does not mean he has a negative connotation attached to his name. He is a proven winner.

"And then in the front office, you know, I think I was the only new person was brought in from a front office standpoint and we went in. And what's really important, if you're going to change a culture, you need to consume the previous culture. And Coach Harbaugh, knowning him. He's rolled in there with his tribe, he's got his people."

Pioli also believes that Harbaugh can only succeed if he takes on the negatives and culture that was instilled with the team before he arrived. He does want to instill toughness in the team, and he can accomplish that by allowing the former culture to inform his new culture.
