NHL Evolution: Martin Brodeur Praises the Exceptional Skill of Today's Players
Martin Brodeur was asked about the skill level of current players in the NHL on the Snipes and Stripes podcast. The Hall of Fame goalie said it is "not even close" regarding the training and work players put into their craft in the modern game.
"As far as the skill itself, the way they control the puck, the way they can receive the puck, the way they shoot the puck. It is really impressive, and it starts at a young age," said Brodeur. Hockey is a big business now, and if you do not do all that work, you are going to fall behind."
Brodeur mentions that it is a different era, and players would not be able to get away with some of the tricks they are doing now in past generations. He mentions skating with your head down was a big no-no during his era.
"When I look at Jack Hughes play, it is like I have a joystick, and I am controlling him," said Brodeur.
Hughes is one of many impressive young players in the sport and had 99 points last season for the New Jersey Devils.
