The new divisions will be the "East" and "West," beginning in 2014 when Rutgers and Maryland join the Big Ten.
Also approved on Sunday was the move from eight conference games to nine starting in 2016.
The Gophers will be in the West division with Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin. Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers will be in the East division.
Patrick Reusse isn't happy with the fact Minnesota's rivalry with Michigan will lose its value as they won't play annually for the Little Brown Jug.
