The Minnesota Gophers football team is cleaning house on the recruiting trail this offseason by adding its third four-star recruit to the 2021 class. With the addition of Avante Dickerson, the Gophers recruiting class is ranked sixth in the nation according to 247Sports.

Dickerson is a top cornerback recruit from Omaha, Nebraska and is the second highest-rated recruit to commit to the Gophers since 247Sports started creating rankings, per Steve Wiltfong. Dickerson picked the Gophers over a slew of teams including his home state Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Dickerson joins an already talented group coming to Dinkytown in 2021 that includes fellow four-star defensive back Steven Ortiz and quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis.

With a strong start, the Gophers currently have the third-ranked class in the Big Ten behind Ohio State (first in the nation) and Wisconsin (fifth nationally).

The early work is a testament to P.J. Fleck, who has gotten Dickerson and Ortiz to commit through virtual visits. With both unable to set foot on campus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it's a similar path to the one receiver Rashod Bateman took before committing in 2017.

If Fleck continues to build this class in the coming months, the Gophers could have a monster group to help build Minnesota into a Big Ten power.
