Gophers dominate second half to defeat Loyola-Marymount
The Minnesota Golden Gopher men's basketball team have started their season with a pair of wins as they took down Loyola-Marymount at Williams Arena on Saturday evening.
The evening got off to a rocky start for Minnesota as the Lions got off to an early lead thanks to a 9-0 run midway through the first half. Although Loyola-Marymount had a 19-10 advantage, the Gophers battled back behind 21 first-half points from Marcus Carr.
After heading into the locker room with a 41-37 halftime lead, the Gophers took charge in the second half. Minnesota opened the half with a 10-2 and got a solid offensive effort from Both Gach, who chipped in with 17 points.
The Gophers expanded their lead to as many as 22 points, but the Lions had a late run to bring the game within 10 points before Minnesota pulled away for the 88-73 victory.
The Gophers (2-0) will host North Dakota on Friday night.
