Gophers go ice cold in loss to Wisconsin
The Minnesota Golden Gopher men's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped in a 71-59 loss to Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon.
The Gophers started the game with a sloppy first half where they had more turnovers (7) than field goals (6). After enduring a seven-minute stretch where the Gophers didn't make a field goal, they still found themselves in the game thanks to the shooting of Gabe Kalscheur.
Despite coming into the game shooting 18 percent from beyond the arc, Kalscheur kept the Gophers in it with 12 points in the first half including shooting 2-of-4 from three-point range. Although Kalscheur's shooting was a pleasant surprise, the Badgers went into halftime with a 29-22 lead.
Even with Minnesota staying within striking distance, their ice-cold performance from the field was too much to overcome. The Badgers ran their lead up to 26 points in the second half behind the performances of Micah Potter (16 points, 11 rebounds) and D'Mitrik Trice (14 points) to come away with the victory.
The loss drops the Gophers to 9-2 on the season and 2-2 in the Big Ten. Minnesota will look to get back in the win column when they host No. 25 Ohio State on Sunday.
