Gophers implode in second half, lose to Purdue
The No. 21 Minnesota Golden Gopher men's basketball team dropped another game on the road, suffering a second-half implosion in an 81-62 loss to Purdue on Saturday night.
The Gophers got off to a great start in the first half despite the Boilermakers holding Marcus Carr scoreless. With Richard Pitino swapping Both Gach for Tre Williams in the starting lineup, the Gophers offense came to life through some unlikely names.
One of those names was senior Eric Curry, who tied for the team lead with eight points in the first half.
Williams and Brandon Johnson also scored eight points as the Gophers raced out to a 35-30 lead at halftime.
While the Gophers held a lead coming into the second half, it didn't last long. The Boilermakers came out of the locker room on fire including a 14-2 run that helped them build a lead as big as 19 points.
With Purdue pulling away, Carr never found his aggressiveness, finishing with six points on 2-of-10 shooting as the Gophers lost their fifth straight road game to open the season.
Minnesota is now 11-6 on the year with a 4-6 record in the Big Ten. The Gophers will try to end their road woes on Thursday when they travel to Rutgers.
