Gophers' tourney hopes take another blow with loss to Nebraska
The Minnesota Golden Gopher men's basketball team absorbed another blow to their tournament hopes, falling to the Nebraska Cornhuskers 78-74 on Saturday night.
The Gophers went to Lincoln reeling as they lost seven of their past nine games. Junior guard Marcus Carr did his best to stop the bleeding, pouring in a career-high 41 points to lead the Gophers on the evening.
While the Gophers also got 12 points from Jamal Mashburn Jr., the same issues that have plagued Minnesota on the road this season held them back.
Minnesota shot just 34.3 percent from the floor including 8-for-30 on 3-point attempts. With the Gophers reeling, Nebraska guard Dalano Blanton took advantage with a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Carr tried to make things interesting willing the Gophers to a 10-0 run late in the second half and bringing Minnesota within three points.
Although Carr had a chance to chip it to one point, he missed the front end of two free throws and Thor Thorbjarnarson knocked down two free throws to put the game out of reach.
Meanwhile, the Gophers fell to 13-12 on the season and 0-9 on the road. They'll look to get their first road win of the year when Minnesota travels to Penn State on Wednesday night.
